« The region’s most upscale accommodation is this refurbished stone-walled house, run by a friendly Anglo-Dutch family. It retains numerous period features, including high, beamed ceilings and an old stone water trough downstairs. The comfortable rooms come equipped with tea-making facilities, beautifully tiled modern bathrooms, flat-screen TVs and internet (though service can be spotty due to Montesinho’s lack of fibre-optic cable).
Other amenities include mountain bikes; a nice piano; a library full of books about local trails, flora and fauna; a swimming pool heated by solar power and incinerated olive pits; and six hiking trails right out back. Two meals a day from the vegetarian-friendly kitchen are included in the price. Kids will love the table tennis table, not to mention the friendly dogs, cats and horses (riding available). »
